    Local 1776 member,
The United States Senate is rushing an irresponsible and reckless tax plan through Congress this week before taxpayers and middle-class families realize the impact it will have on their pocketbooks over the next decade.
To be clear, this is not a political party issue. This is an issue of what is best for you and your family. The devil is in the details and calls are needed to Senator Pat Toomey immediately.
The Senate tax plan would do the following:
    • Cause a tax increase for nearly 13 million families whose household earnings are less than $200,000 by 2019. By 2027, the number of families who will receive a tax increase will rise to nearly 38 million. This is according to the Congress' Joint Committee on Taxation, which is the federal scorekeeper on tax issues.
    • In the same year that nearly 13 million families will receive a tax increase in 2019, the Senate tax plan will give over $34 billion in tax cuts to the country's richest 572,000 families. This is also according to an analysis by the Joint Committee on Taxation.
    • The Tax Policy Center estimates by 2027, the Senate tax bill gives over 60 percent of the benefits to millionaires. This only adds to the fact that richest one percent in our country have seen their share of national income roughly double since 1980, from 11 percent to now 20 percent.
Fairness in our tax system for middle-class families and especially the members of UFCW Local 1776 is needed. A tax plan that doesn't invest in working families is wrong, especially when those at the top already receive the majority of tax breaks in our country.
It is time for a real tax plan that helps workers in America.
Call Senator Pat Toomey and demand hearings on a new tax plan that will benefit middle-class Americans, not the wealthy and those at the top. Ask Sen. Toomey to oppose the current tax plan.
