Your State Rep's Vote on the PA Budget
Updated On: Sep 15, 2017
UFCW Local 1776 Member,
Yesterday, the Pennsylvania House of Representatives failed to meet their constitutional obligation to fund the Pennsylvania State Budget and instead, passed a phony and irresponsible budget revenue package that does not adequately fund our schools, keep our roads, highways and bridges safe, or provide necessary funding for various state and human services that all Pennsylvanians benefit from.
By a vote of 103-91, Pennsylvania House Republicans passed a revenue package based on fake numbers and raiding various state funds for public transportation, environmental protection and public safety.
That is right and I will repeat it again: House Republicans raided state funds that protect public transportation, public safety and the environment instead of doing their job to pass a real budget revenue package.
Pennsylvania House Republicans passed a budget that raises no new revenues. That means no Marcellus Shale tax on natural gas drillers. That means no closing corporate tax loopholes to make sure companies pay their fair share of Pennsylvania taxes just like you and I. That means no raising the minimum wage to lift up working families and provide more tax revenue and economic development for our Commonwealth.
This vote was based on politics, not policy, and it is the latest attempt by Pennsylvania House Republicans to stifle any progress Governor Wolf continues to make for hard-working Pennsylvanians like the members of UFCW Local 1776.
We must hold our legislators accountable for this risky vote that will lead to state credit downgrades and severe budget cuts since our state is running out of money to fund essential services in Pennsylvania. Instead of taking their job seriously to ensure our state can take care of its citizens and fund our state services properly, House Republicans took an egregious step to delay any progress in solving the 2017-18 state budget.
Please call your state representative today and let them know they need to do their job and pass a real budget that includes real revenues like a Marcellus Shale tax or raising the minimum wage.
