RITE AID Negotiation Update
Posted On: Jun 16, 2017
PITTSTON - (06/16/2017) As was reported in our May 2017 Negotiation Update, our first bargaining sessions with your Company were held on June 14th and 15th at the Local 1776 Northeast Division Offices in Pittston, Luzerne County. At that time, your Bargaining Team presented a comprehensive contract proposal to Rite Aid. We discussed such non-economic items as expanding the non-discrimination clause as well as matters that are important for you and your family; wages, for example. The Company also presented their proposals at this time, including an overview of the current business landscape.
We are scheduled for negotiations with Rite Aid again on June 20th, 21st, 22nd and 23rd.
In terms of the proposed merger with Walgreens Boots Alliance, Local 1776 is continuing to monitor to see when and how the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the Federal Agency that is tasked with reviewing proposed corporate mergers and acquisitions in the United States, will rule to either approve or block the merger. On May 8th, 2017, both Walgreens and Rite Aid jointly notified the FTC that they have complied with the Agency’s requests, which triggers a timeframe to make a decision. At our negotiations, your Company did not provide any additional information on the merger, as they are also awaiting a decision by the FTC.
We encourage you to continue to visit our website for the latest updates and information on your contract negotiations as well as the Walgreens Boots Alliance merger.
