(Plymouth Meeting, PA, September 19) Members of the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 1776 ratified a three-year agreement with Rite Aid yesterday evening.  The new agreement includes wage increases and maintains quality health benefits.

Wendell W. Young, IV, President of UFCW Local 1776 said early negotiation meetings helped make certain the contract was ratified in a timely manner.

“I thank the Rite Aid negotiating committee for taking initiative and working hard on behalf of their fellow members to secure the best outcome.”

Local 1776 Secretary-Treasurer and UFCW Outreach Chairperson Michele Kessler said this contract makes a particularly special type of history.

“Local 1776’s newly ratified agreement with Rite Aid is the first in the country to include gender expression to the non-discrimination clause.  This addition is a step in the right direction as part of LGBT equality at the workplace and furthers an issue that is important to the Local 1776 family.”

The contract covers 2,700 Rite Aid employees in more than 209 locations across Philadelphia, Northeast and Central Pennsylvania.
